IN NORTH CAROLINA

Early voting is open through Nov 2nd!

You can register to vote at your polling place during Early Voting!

How to Vote Early in NC

Same Day Voter Registration Available

In-person voter registration is still available when you go to early vote. Early voting ends Nov 2nd.

  • If you plan on registering to vote during early voting, make sure you bring one of the following required documents: a North Carolina driver's license, other photo identification issued by a government agency, a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing the voter’s name and address, a current college/university photo identification card paired with proof of campus habitation or other photo ID that has been approved for voting purposes.

Absentee Ballots

  • Request your absentee ballot here

  • Any registered North Carolina voter may apply for an absentee ballot and vote by mail.

  • The deadline to request your absentee ballot is October 29 at 5pm for requests by mail, online, and in person.

  • If you were impacted by hurricane Helene, learn more about your absentee ballot options here.

The deadline to return your absentee ballot is 5pm on Election Day, if you are returning it in person. If you are returning your absentee ballot by mail, it must be postmarked on Election Day (or earlier).

Once you've submitted your ballot, you can track it by clicking the red button below.

What to Bring to the Polls

  • Bring a photo ID

  • If you don’t have a photo ID, or lost it due to Helene, you can fill out a Photo ID Exception Form at your voting site. If you plan to submit an absentee ballot, you can fill out the same form and send it back with your absentee ballot.

Voting in Areas Impacted by Hurricane Helene

For those in counties impacted by Hurricane Helene, you have additional options to vote. Visit this page for more information.

  • If you are displaced, you can request an absentee ballot to be delivered to your new location.

  • If you have already requested an absentee ballot and need it to be sent to a new location, contact your county board of elections to spoil your current ballot and reissue a ballot to your new location.

  • Request an absentee ballot online at the North Carolina Absentee Ballot Portal.

  • If you lost your photo ID due to Helene, you have options:

    • Fill out a Photo ID Exception Form at your voting site or send the form back with your absentee ballot. (A blank Exception Form will arrive with your absentee packet.) Check the box for “Exception 3: Victim of a Natural Disaster.” Make sure to sign the form.

    • Go to your county board of elections office. If you are a registered voter, they can take your photo and print an acceptable ID on the spot. For details, go to Get a Free Voter Photo ID.

    • Get a free ID from an NCDMV office in your area. For details, see State IDs | NCDMV.

    • For details about North Carolina’s photo ID requirement, including a list of all acceptable IDs, go to BringItNC.gov.
